On 6 November 2012, the Have a Ball Foundation was able to sponsor the communities of Lilla, Ulpanyali & Wanmarra with the purchase of a large number of seeds to start the planting of a market garden, the size of 3 football ovals. The market garden is located approximately 250 kms west of Alice Springs at the Wanmara outstation near the Watarrka School at Lilla which was visited recently during the Have a Ball Foundation road trip to delivery sporting balls to remote schools in need. The rebuilding of this thriving market garden will generate produce which will be sold in town and to the Kings Canyon resort creating a small enterprise and employment. The surrounding communities will also benefit from the fresh vegetables produced and the seedlings will be used to establish gardens in other remote schools and outstations.

The seeds will be germinated & planted in early 2013 and will cover a variety of plants including broad beans, capsicum, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, chilli, cucumber, lettuce, peas, tomatos, watermelon and squash. These supplies will provide ongoing fresh produce to feed all the people from these regions.

We would like to thank the team from Remote Tours in Alice Springs who will be managing the distribution of the supplies to the site and facilitating the planting of the market garden early next year.

Thank you to all those who have kindly donated to enable our foundation to provide this assistance as you have been able to kick start a terrific venture to be able to feed such a large region of indigenous people in their local communities. You have made a world of difference to their lives and this project will enable them to be self sufficient in leading a healthy lifestyle.

We look forward to be able to continue support to these communities to see this project fully up and running in 2013.
